IAS Prelims 2017 Paper Analysis-
 
The candidates who had appeared in the examination find the paper difficult than the last year. The nature of questions this year were designed in such a manner that a candidate needs to have an extensive and in-depth knowledge of the subjects and the knowledge related to the current affairs. Candidates with just the surface knowledge found the GS Paper-1 difficult to solve.
 
GS Paper-1 Analysis-
 
1) The number of questions was divided in among the subjects in a manner given below-
 
  • History of India and Indian National Movement- 14
  • Indian and World Geography- 08
  • Indian Polity and Governance- 22
  • Economic and Social Development- 15
  • Environment, Ecology, Bio-diversity and Climate Change- 11
  • Science and Technology- 08
  • Current Events- 22
 
2) A good number of questions asked from the Indian Polity section which indicates an increase in the number of questions from this section. The Level of the Questions was moderate and to score in this section; the candidate must possess the conceptual clarity of the static and dynamic part of the subject.
 
3) The questions from History of India and Indian National Movement were difficult in level. In-depth knowledge was needed to solve the questions of Art and Culture correctly. From Modern India also, non-conventional questions were asked. For example- A question related to Trade Disputes Act 1929 was asked.
 
4) The  Level of questions in asked from Geography section was easy. The candidates with good knowledge of Maps found the questions very simple.
 
5) Demonetization, GST and Benami Property Act were in the hot news, the questions from Banking, Finance and Financial Inclusion were obviously expected. The questions were asked on National Pension System (NPS), Small Finance Banks (SFBs), etc.
 
6) Environment and Ecology section remained a dominant section in the paper. Location based questions and International Organizations questions related to Environment were asked.
 
7) General Current Affairs has been covering a major portion of question paper since the change of paper pattern, and it will remain to be a prominent part.
 
8) The NDA Government schemes like National Skills Qualification Framework (NSQF), Vidyanjali Yojna and smart India Hackathon were also given importance.
 
CSAT Paper 2-
 
1) UPSC had increased the level of CSAT Paper- 2. The candidates who had ignored the preparation of the paper altogether may have found themselves in trouble.
 
2) Comprehension Passage had maintained dominance in the paper.
 
3) Tough Aptitude Questions were asked.
